We do visit each site submitted to appraise its suitability of in terms of being Scottish in character and not pornographic or subversive. Webmaster Questions

Q. How do I submit a site to Scotsmart ?

A. Firstly find the category page which you believe best suits your site. Then click the "Submit Site" link at the page bottom.

Q. How can I improve my website's position in Scotsmart Category pages?

A. Become an Affiliate by placing a prominent link back to Scotsmart.

Q. I have linked to Scotsmart but my site isn't showing near the page top as an Affiliate?

A. Affiliate status is awarded for incoming traffic to Scotsmart rather than simply a link. To prevent people claiming Affiliate status simply by placing a link to Scotsmart on a low traffic page within their site, Scotsmart must detect incoming traffic from your site arriving at it's home page. Only while we detect traffic from your site will you be awarded Affiliate status.

When your site is raised to Affiliate you will receive traffic from Scotsmart. It is only fair that you send some in the other direction back to Scotsmart. We are not greedy, but expect to detect around one visitor from you per fortnight.

Also.... if you use domain forwarding ie. you have a domain registered which redirects to your site which is hosted under another domain, you must tell us because we have no way of matching your entry in Scotsmart to the incoming traffic from a site which we don't know about. Example: you tell us www.greatkiltshere.com but you host at homepages.something/~greatkilts - we need to be told these are the same.

Q. My listing moves around the page, sometimes near the top, middle or bottom. Why?

A. Each time the Category pages are rebuilt the order is randomly changed. Since listings near the top are clicked most often, this cycling of position gives every listing a chance. The only exceptions are for Sponsors where the top positions can be purchased.

Q. I have never submitted my site to Scotmart but it's listed in a category already. Why?

A. About 3% of the directory listings have been added by the webmaster. These have tended to be .org .ac & .gov type sites rather than businesses. The object has been to widen the scope and content of the directory.
